Hello my name is Ruben Ochosa and I am, in fact, NOT a sentient cactus (bio picture is my wife’s portrait of me and is actually pretty accurate) but a California-born illustrator based in Connecticut. I’ve been putting pen to page from a young age and have always had a deep love of comics but now I’m looking to redefine the 40-year-old version of myself by diving professionally into world that I’ve always greatly admired- the visual arts.

For the last 15 years, I have held a career as an audio production professional and musician. But, a small thing called a pandemic forced a tiny vacation from that world and allowed me to rekindle my love for comics and drawing. So, for the last 4 years I worked everyday to improve and develop my art, which ultimately led me here… self publishing my fan-fiction comic and making the shift to enter the visual art world professionally.

My goals are to collaborate in the fields of sequential art, ie graphic novels and storyboarding. I am also practiced in concept art; specifically in character design. The mediums I work with are a mixture of digital and traditional, specifically graphite/colored pencil, ink, and copic markers. My software proficiencies include Adobe suites, primarily Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premier.
